They talk about it

"Substance Painter is that magic application; there's always more great features to make your life easier!"

Laurens “Xoliul” Corijn, Technical Artist, EA DICE

For 20 years, mainstream 3D paint solutions have relied on the same manual approach from one program to the next. Along comes Substance Painter, which has the potential to shake things up, innovate and revolutionize the way we visually create in films, games and other digital mediums.

Gee Yeung, Creative director, visual development artist for film, Dreamworks Animation Studios

What's on the roadmap?

2D Painting
Painting textures should be simple. We want to give you the set of tools you actually need, in a clean, uncluttered UI.
Live Link with Substance Designer 4
Shared assets libraries, live update, deep painting and compositing integration... We believe Substance 4, with the combination of Painter and Designer, can become the all-in-one tool for texture artists.
100% non destructive
In an ideal pipeline, nothing should ever be destructive. Every action, every stroke in Substance Painter can be modified afterward at any time.

We are proud to announce that we have licensed the amazing particle engine from Popcorn FX for particles.
We also wanted to incorporate extremely high quality, multi-layer stencils and brushes, so we created such a library based on the amazing, scanned content by our friends at Surface Mimic

We don't have any official minimal specs yet, but the GPU is what matters with Substance Painter. An Nvidia 5xx or an AMD 77xx series should be enough to paint comfortably. Regarding Mac OSX, Substance Painter needs OSX 10.7 minimum.

The shader quality setting can kill performances on a low end GPU, make sure to select the right quality setting depending on your rig.
Can I create my own particles presets?
Not yet, we are still working on the tools you will use to create them. You can tweak the ones that come with the tool and save them as separate brushes though, to produce your own.
I think features are missing, what should I do?
There are a lot of things that are still missing! Chances are, what you are looking for is already on our list but if in doubt, use the Community Hub on Steam to share your request with the other testers, this will help us prioritize development on our end.
